The company is run and owned by two ski enthusiasts who are passionate about designing and producing high performance skis with the lowest possible ecological impact. Both owners integrate and know all members along the production chain personally to ensure maximum transparency and control. They only choose to work with partners who are aligned with their clearly defined vision targets to produce innovative and future proof skis.

The baseline to achieve these targets comes from the Code of Conduct of the platform Circular Economy Switzerland, which includes environmental and social components.

The earlybird skis manufacturing partner for bigger volumes is located in the Czech Republic. There is no 3^rd party certification but earlybird skis does the auditing work to ensure alignment with their code of conduct on a personal basis. For certification at the product level earlybird skis use certified raw materials wherever possible. In this specific case, earlybird skis uses a revolutionary technology on the resin to enable recyclability. This material is new and in 2021 it’s still in a pilot phase and awaiting certification. Die Produktionsstätte für den größten Anteil der earlybird Skis befindet sich in der Tschechischen Republik. Es gibt keine Zertifizierung durch Dritte, aber earlybird skis führen die Auditarbeiten eigenständig durch, um persönlich die Qualität und die Übereinstimmung mit dem Verhaltenskodex sicherzustellen. Für die Zertifizierung auf Produktebene verwenden earlybird Skis nach Möglichkeit zertifizierte Rohstoffe. Die Besonderheit bei earlybird skis ist, dass seit dem Winter 2020/2021 alle Skier mit einem revolutionären Epoxid-Harz System hergestellt werden, welches die Recyclingfähigkeit der Ski ermöglicht. Dieses Material ist teilweise biobasiert, neu entwickelt, befindet sich 2021 noch in der Pilotphase und wartet auf die Zertifizierung. earlybird skis has chosen partners to design a completely circular ski, which means, that earlybird skis can be fully recycled at the end of life. This recyclability also applies to any offcut wastage produced during the manufacturing process. This is a huge step towards a zero-waste philosophy, something which is truly unique in the ski-manufacturing world. All products are designed to perform with the lowest possible environmental impact, all materials are chosen to ensure they are locally sourced and/or as eco friendly as possible. All ingredients are standard materials from the industry with the exception of the innovative resin, which dissolves so the composites can be recycled. The recycled steel comes from Austria. All skis are made in the same manner, but some skis are available with two different top sheets (wood or biobased polyamid). All products are CO₂ neutral, they are compensated with myclimate to the gold standard.

Ein einzigartiger Meilenstein in der Skiproduktion. Bei allen Produkten wird die Produktionsmethode ausgewählt, die den möglichst geringsten ökologischen Fußabdruck hat. Alle Inhaltsstoffe sind Standardmaterialien aus der Industrie. Die einzige Ausnahme ist das neu entwickelte Epoxid-Harz, das durch seine Löslichkeit am Lebensende der Ski die vollständige Recyclierbarkeit gewährleistet. Alle Ski werden auf die gleiche Weise hergestellt, einige Modelle sind mit zwei verschiedenen Top-Sheets erhältlich (Holz oder biobasiertes Polyamid). Alle Produkte sind CO₂-neutral, sie werden mit myclimate nach dem Goldstandard kompensiert.

The energy for the production site in the Czech Republic comes from renewable resources. All product emissions including manufacturing and transportation are kept to a minimum. The emissions, which can’t be avoided are compensated with myclimate to a gold standard project and are therefore CO₂ neutral. In order to adhere to the Zero-Waste concept the idea is to have a machine in the manufacturing facility, which can separate the epoxy from the wood, steel and base for further utilisation – meaning correct and quality conscious recycling. This is being conceptualized during 2021.

Alle Luftemissionen, einschließlich Herstellung und Transport werden, auf ein Minimum reduziert. With the exception of the FSC certified wood-cores from China, all other raw materials are sourced from Europe. All CO₂ emissions related to transportation are compensated with myclimate, gold standard. By moving the production from Bern Switzerland where earlybird skis started originally in a barn, to the EU in 2019, they have achieved an improvement in CO₂ emissions per ski related to transport on the raw materials, because those are shipped in larger batches. All stores in the EU are supplied directly by the manufacturer in the Czech Republic. All skis for Switzerland are delivered to Bern and then distributed further.

Bis auf die chinesischen FSC zertifizierten Paulownia-Holzkerne stammen alle Rohstoffe aus Europa. Alle mit dem Transport verbundenen CO₂-Emissionen werden mit myclimate in Goldstandard Projekten kompensiert. Durch die Verlagerung der anfänglich handwerklichen Produktion von der Schweiz in eine kommerzielle Produktionsstätte in der EU im Jahr 2019, konnten die transportrelevanten CO₂-Emissionen der Rohmaterialien pro Ski verbessert werden. Dies wird durch die Zusammenlegung von größeren Materialmengen im kommerziellen Zusammenhang gewährleistet. Alle Händler in der EU werden direkt vom Hersteller in der Tschechischen Republik beliefert. Alle Ski für die Schweiz werden nach Bern geliefert und dann weiter verteilt.

earlybird skis are fully recyclable, which is a game changing innovation for the ski manufacturing industry. Pioneering the recycling of composites is a true achievement and inspiring example. The effectiveness of recycling is always highly dependent on the surrounding infrastructure. earlybird skis is working on a project to encourage cooperation (see progress). With every ski purchased, the customer receives a first aid kit for the repair of the top sheet and some bio wax for the base. If the top sheet needs professional attention, it can be repaired at earlybird skis directly, while the base can be repaired In the usual way by any competent as usual at any competent ski repair centre.
